Peru is located in the central part of the western coast of South America.Our limits are to the north: Ecuador and Colombia, south: Chile, East: Brasil and Bolivia and West: Pacific Ocean. Peru is the third biggest country of South America, It stretches across 1,285,215 square kilometers, it is distributed aproximatly like this: 12% Coast, 28% Mountains and 60% of Jungle. The capital of Peru is Lima, located in the coast, where are developed the main economic activities.
The peruvian time is GMT-5 hours and is the same standard time than the East of the United States (except when USA is with summer time, from april to october).
Seasons in Peru:
- Summer: December 22nd. to March 21st.
- Autumn: March 22nd. to June 21st.
- Winter: June 22nd. to September 22nd.
- Spring: September 23rd. to December 21st.
The coast presents, in general, a tempered climate, warm in the north, a little colder to the center and south. The rains are almost nonexistent to exception of the north area where strong rains are presented in the months of summer. In some areas of the central and south coast, as the cities of Lima and Arequipa, in the months of winter is common the presence of very delicate rains called garúa.
The Andean area or mountain has in general a cold and dry climate, in the north area the rains are more intense.
The Amazon area or jungle has a tropical, hot and humid climate, with presence of torrential rains that are increased in the months of summer.
Lima has an extremely humid climate with temperatures fluctuating between 15º and 24ºC.

Countries where visa is not required, citizens only need their valid passport:
America: All the countries of America except Cuba.
All the citizens of countries of the European Union.
Asia: Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand.
Africa: South Africa
The citizens of other countries will request Tourist's Visa in the Consulate of Peru in their respective country.
Although the list above is updated visa requirements may be subject to change at any time. All travelling passengers should refer to their closest Peruvian Embassy to check which visas are required.
The official languages of Peru are Spanish, and Quechua. Spanich spoken by most of the population ( 73%), and Quechua spoken 24% of Peruvians mainly located in the Andes. In touristic places english is widely spoken.
Peru's official currency is the Nuevo sol (S/.). The denominations in circulation are bills of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 nuevos soles; coins of 1, 2, and 5 nuevos soles; and coins of 5, 10, 20 and 50 céntimos of a nuevo sol. US$ are widely accepted.
At the moment, US$ 1.00 is worth around 3.40 Nuevos Soles.
Credit Cards: Master Card, Visa, American Express and Dinners are welcome in most of the establishments, you will find many ATM´s all over the country
The voltage supply in Peru is 220 volts AC, 60 Hz. It is recommended to bring travel adapters.
PERUVIAN FOOD :
Peruvian cuisine is highly varied and spicy. Some of our typical dishes are: "cebiche" (raw fish marinated in lemon juice), "aji de gallina" (de-boned chicken cooked in a milk and aji sauce), and "anticuchos" (square pieces of beef heart), apart from the typical dishes from each region.
Our traditional drink is
"Pisco Sour", prepared with pisco, lemon, egg white and sugar.
